FAQ's

Q: When's the best time for maternity portraits?

You can schedule maternity photos at any stage in your pregnancy! The ideal window for a photo session is between 25 and 34 weeks. That’s when the belly’s bold, the energy’s up, and the vibe is just right. Anything before 25 weeks won't display your belly at full term, while in the final weeks of pregnancy you may experience swelling and discomfort which isn't much fun when you're taking photos.

Q: Where do Maternity Sessions take place?

All sessions take place in my comfy West Asheville studio, where for over eight years I've photographed hundreds of satisfied clients.

Q: What should I bring to my maternity session?

When preparing for a maternity shoot you'll want to consider two essentials: Hair & Make Up, and Wardrobe options.

Hair & Make Up

Many mothers prefer a completely natural look for their maternity session while others choose to make themselves up to the extent with which they're comfortable. There is no right or wrong, totally up to you! Alternatively, you can hire a professional hair and make up artist to style you for a high-end look. (There are lots of great stylists in Asheville; if you need help lining up a hair & make up artist just let me know!)

Wardrobe

We'll shoot 2-3 looks during our session:

1) Dressed & Expressed -

Your favorite maternity dress, jumpsuit, or other item of clothing that makes you feel glamourous. Clean, classic, powerful.

2) Styled & Unfiltered

This is the fun and creative look. Think body suits, robes, chain dresses, fur coats, lingerie, silk robes, or fun accessories like oversized hats, scarves, and body jewelry - anything fun and funky that makes you feel like a rock star!

3) Artfully Undone -

The final look leans into the iconic maternity imagery: glowing skin, dramatic lighting, bold silhouettes. Some women go fully nude, others keep it subtle and implied. Always tasteful, always optional, we'll work within your comfort zone to highlight the amazing changes of your figure as you near full term.

Need some Wardrobe Ideas or Accessories Inspiration?

No problem! Check out this LIST on Amazon.com. (I'd never directly encourage a client to purchase an item from Amazon.com for our shoot only to return it, but I hear this happens frequently ;)

Q: Who is the photographer?

I'm Sandlin Gaither, the sole photographer behind Sandlin Gaither Photography. I've been a  working photographer in Asheville for over 20 years, where I've concentrated on musician and studio portraiture. Many years ago, when my wife and numerous friends were pregnant, they called on me for maternity photos due to the noticeable absence of quality maternity photography in the region, and it just snowballed from there! Learn more about me HERE

Q: Are spaces really limited?

Yes, this is absolutely true. I limit my work to 6 portrait sessions per month. Once these spaces fill up, they're gone!

Q: How do I book a session?

Booking a session is simple!

Fill out the form below and I'll get right back to you with available windows. There is a $100 deposit to hold your space, with the remainder of $200 due on the day of our session.

Q: When will I get to see my photos?

Your images will take an average of 7 days to edit and will be delivered to you via private Dropbox folder accessible only by you. The link/folder will remain active for three months after initial delivery. You can use them for anything you'd like, from prints to sharing on social media. I'm happy to discuss printing arrangements with you as well, from framed images and portfolio boxes to wall canvases.
