The final look leans into the iconic maternity imagery: glowing skin, dramatic lighting, bold silhouettes. Some mothers go fully nude, others keep it subtle and implied. Always tasteful, always optional, we'll work together within your comfort zone to highlight the amazing changes of your figure as you near full term.

When's the ideal time for maternity portraits?
The perfect window for a maternity photo session is between 25 and 34 weeks. That’s when the belly’s bold, the energy’s up, and the vibe is just right. Anything before 25 weeks won't display your belly at full term, while in the final weeks of pregnancy you may experience swelling and discomfort which isn't much fun when you're trying to look your best for photos.
How should I prepare for my maternity session?
When preparing for a maternity shoot you'll want to consider two essentials: Hair & Make Up, and Wardrobe options.
Hair & Makeup
Many mothers prefer a completely natural look for their maternity session while others choose to make themselves up to the extent with which they're comfortable. There is no right or wrong, totally up to you! Alternatively, you can hire a professional hair and make up artist to style you for a high-end look. (There are lots of great stylists in Asheville; if you need help lining up a hair & make up artist just let me know!)
Wardrobe
A standard maternity session involves 2-3 looks:

Dressed & Expressed
Your favorite maternity dress, jumpsuit, gown, or other item of clothing that makes you feel glamourous. This look is clean, classic, and powerful.

How do I book a session?
Booking a session is super easy- just fill out the form below and I'll get right back with you to plan a session and answer any questions you have about the process. Once you're ready to book a date there is a $150 deposit to hold your session, with the remainder ($249) due on the day of our session.
When will I receive my photos?
Your images will take an average of 7-10 days to edit and will be delivered via private Dropbox folder accessible only by you. The link/folder will remain active for three months after initial delivery. You can use your images for anything you'd like, from prints to sharing on social media. I'm happy to discuss printing arrangements with you as well, from framed images and portfolio boxes to wall canvases.
Who is the photographer?
I'm Sandlin Gaither, an Asheville-based photographer with over two decades of experience. I've photographed celebrities, rock stars, and hundreds of amazing Ashevillians in my time behind the lens. I shot my first maternity session as a favor for a friend almost fifteen years ago and discovered there was a demand for my style of maternity portraiture. Since then I've photographed dozens of new mothers, and it's been such an unexpected blessing to experience this amazing time in my client's life with each of them.

Where do Maternity Sessions take place?
This series of On-Location Sessions will take place in a setting of your choosing for your convenience. Ideally this would be in or around your home, yard, or a scenic setting where you feel inspired. This approach is a bit different from my standard studio shoots, and requires a bit of an adventurous mindset, but has the potential to create highly original, unique imagery.
Please note that my goal for all of my sessions is to create a safe and comfortable environment during for both you as the subject and myself as the photographer. Having a friend, family member, or companion present during the session is both accepted and encouraged for your safety and comfort. If you have any questions or concerns about anything at all please reach out via email and I'll be happy to schedule a call to discuss the entire process.
